short film competition

Q.  Can we provide previously made movies for the 1st Round entries?

A.  No.  All movies/screenplays must be created during the competition and must be based on the genre and subject provided.

Q.  Do the movies have to be in English?

A.  No.  Anyone may participate from any country around the world, but we strongly advise foreign movies to be subtitled or dubbed (as English-speaking judges will be viewing them).

Q.  Does the final round movie have to be made in NYC?

A.  No, but...  One representative from each team must be present at the final round subject and genre drawing in NYC and someone must submit the finished movie in the correct format in NYC the following night.  In 2003, teams from Austin, TX and Detroit, MI, produced their entire 24-hour movie in their hometowns and uploaded them to a representative in NYC.

Q.  Do we have to provide our own equipment in both rounds of the competition?

A.  Yes.  See the Survival Guide for any equipment or software/hardware needs.

Q.  What is the age limit for the participants?

A.  The only restriction on age is that the team representative must be 18 years of age or older.

Q.  Is there a limit to the number of team members?

A.  No.  There is no maximum or minimum number of team members.  So, if you think you can do it by yourself, go for it.

Q.  Can I enter both the short film competition and screenplay competition?

A.  Yes.  The competitions dates do not conflict.
