▪ Anyone may compete from anywhere in the world ▪ There are 2 rounds ▪ 1st Round (January 15-23, 2009) : Writers are placed randomly in heats. Each heat is assigned a genre and a subject (ex. comedy : competing lemonade stands or horror : a family reunion). ▪ Writers have 8 days to write an original short story (2,500 words max). ▪ Winners are chosen from the 1st Round to advance to the 2nd round and compete for thousands in cash and prizes. ▪ 2nd Round (March 12-13, 2009) : All of the writers receive the same genre and subject at midnight (EST time) and have just 24 hours to write an original short story.
▪ A panel of judges
review the final round stories and winners are chosen!

You' by Jill Raftery SYNOPSIS - A woman attempts to come to
terms with her husband’s recent loss of sight as she remembers what
it was that brought them together in the first place, while he
struggles to discover what he has left to live for now.

mountain, drown in the deep blue sea

TAKE' by Rebecca Ashcraft SYNOPSIS - Every once in a while
we're lucky enough to catch a glimpse of what really matters in
life. The difficult part is knowing what to do when it shows up in
person.
Honorable Mention - ' 'Funny
Packages' by Carolyn Crowell SYNOPSIS - A woman finds her true love
at her mother’s funeral and realizes love is blind.
Honorable Mention - ' 'On a Dark
Moon' by Annika Wood SYNOPSIS - In this romance with a sci-fi
spin, a crew member sabotages a space ship, forcing the remaining
two crew members to fly blind. As they hurl through space without
any idea where they are heading, their love blossoms, until a crash
on a strange moon threate
Honorable Mention - ' 'Persimmon
and Vanilla' by Michael Kass SYNOPSIS - Still getting used to
using senses other than sight, a blind man is caught unawares by a
scent on the subway. Bewitched and increasingly obsessed, he
struggles to maintain his equilibrium until the scent's owner seeks
him out.
Honorable Mention - ' 'Pudge' by
Bruno Zalubil SYNOPSIS - Two colleagues find that they share a
passion for the Chicago White Sox, then perceive the deepening of
their relationship in different ways.
Honorable Mention - ' 'Saving
Face' by Darcy Stoltzfus SYNOPSIS - A sculptor archives his memories
with the visions his hands mold.
Honorable Mention - ' 'The
Reading Lesson' by Matt Spivey SYNOPSIS - A young boy’s
conversation with his grandmother reveals a lesson of true love when
they both find comfort in the healing power of books. Honorable Mention - ' 'ZATOICHI' by Geoffery Metz SYNOPSIS - Synopsis: Maxwell, a blind, lonely masseur, falls for a married grocery store clerk after she becomes a regular client. Does he find love, too?
